What is Seldovia Science Thursdays?
Seldovia Science Fridays is a free youth science- and nature-oriented educational program coordinated by the Sea Otter Community Center and the Susan B. English School in Seldovia, Alaska. Starting in the 2025-26 school year, programming will be held at the Susan B. English School (regular school days, ALL STUDENTS), and at the SOCC (early release and non-holiday no-school days, K-5 ONLY).
Our 2-hour weekly program is instructed and supported by a rotating staff of educators, staff and scientists from the Kachemak Bay Environmental Education Alliance (KBEEA; including the Seldovia Village Tribe, the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, the Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Pratt Museum and the NOAA Kasitsna Bay Laboratory, among others), as well as parent and community volunteers.
Registration is required by the Wednesday prior to each event. Parents may also enroll their children for all events. See details below:
To enroll a homeschool child for programming, please contact seldoviasocc@gmail.com.
For students attending Susan B. English School: 1) When programming is held at the school and on early-release days, registration/attendance is coordinated by their teacher and other SBE staff. 2) When programming is held at the SOCC (no-school days), registration is required with the SOCC coordinator.
